Media

The media and communication sector is very important for Cologne's economy. More than a third of the nation's TV program is produced in the Metropolis on the Rhine and over 55,000 people work in the region's media industry. Not a day goes by without a camera crew filming somewhere on the streets of Cologne, and this has in fact become an element of urban life in Germany's TV capital.

The successful media industry has a major influence on the people and their attitude towards Cologne and their life. The TV productions, together with the countless radio stations, advertising agencies, publishers and music labels, all add to the impressive diversity of this historical city.

Various international productions have also underlined Cologne's importance as a media hot spot. For instance, the Hollywood drama "The Reader" with Kate Winslet, who won the Oscar for best actress in a leading role, was shot in Cologne.

Visitors to Cologne might also have the chance to experience some of the popular TV programmes as a member of the studio audience. Entertainment shows such as "TV Total" or the comedy quiz "Genial Daneben" offer a number of seats for spectators.
